Past Events – PRIME EVE ALL

PRIME EVE ALL
27th May – 1st June 2007, Isle of Islay

The numbers 12 and 13 stand next to each other in the familiar sequence of counting numbers but are completely different in character. 12 divides and sub-divides by 6, 4, 3 and 2 (and is associated with groups such as juries and astrological signs), while 13 is complete unto itself (and associated with witches).

Arithmetic, which is concerned with the property and manipulation of number, is one of the three subjects, along with algebra and geometry that make up mathematics. Algebra uses symbols to extrapolate from particular examples to general principles, while geometry involves the study of spatial relationships. Through these disciplines, mathematicians explore the patterns underlying existence; but the widely held view that this is a pastime reserved for the intellectual elite is a mistaken one.

During these 5 days we will adopt female tactics, with our broom-sticks at hand, to gain access to this abstract world. It opens to those who hold back, hover, twist and weave, as well as those who approach head on.

The course will start on the evening of Sunday 27th May and end on the evening of Friday 1st June. It will be limited to 9 people and will cost £150 (excluding travel).
