‘G’ FORCE
October 31st – November 7th 2009, Isle of Islay

The Vesica Piscis is a simple geometric form that can be drawn up using a pencil, ruler and compass from two dots on a blank page. From it, many more geometric forms can be derived, including the Tetrahedron. If the Stone, Threads and Stick are swopped with the Earth, Moon and Sun mysterious links emerge between these two forms.

Families of eclipses, including both lunar and solar, spiral around our globe from pole to pole keeping faithfully to a cosmological heartbeat. This rhythm is based on multiples of phi, which is associated with √5, one of the so-called ‘irrational numbers’ which can be derived from the Vesica along with √3 and √2. Phi is fundamental to the Golden Mean, a proportion used in art and classical architecture, and to the Fibonacci sequence of numbers which underlies spirallic patterns of growth in structures such as sunflowers, pine cones and sea shells.

In our model of theTetrahedron, the Stick is divided into five sections. These represent five divisions in the longitudinal axis of the body, both in relation to the spinal column and the central nervous system. The Stick rises from the centre point of the Vesica; this is also the centre point of √5. In many traditions the Vesica Piscis symbolises the Sacred Yoni, or female creative principle.

During ‘G Force’ these diverse threads will be drawn together to form a plait made from a three-ply yarn.
